Following procedure should help you mount an ISO image in Sun Solaris
Attach a Block Device
sunsolaris# lofiadm -a /export/software/iso_image.iso
/dev/lofi/1
/dev/lofi/1
Mount the ISO Image block device
sunsolaris# mount -F hsfs -o ro /dev/lofi/1 /mnt
Where /mnt is the mount point.
This should mount the ISO image.
To confirm, change directory to /mnt and do a “ls” to lis the files
sunsolaris# cd /mnt
sunsolaris# ls
if at anytime, you want to look at these block devices simply type “lofiadm” command with no arguement.
sunsolaris# lofiadm
Block Device File
/dev/lofi/1 /export/software/iso_image.iso
Block Device File
/dev/lofi/1 /export/software/iso_image.iso
When we are done with the files on the mounted ISO, we can unmount and detach the Block device we attached earlier:
sunsolaris# umount /mnt
sunsolaris# lofiadm -d /dev/lofi/1

Oracle Solaris provides several system installation group packages. The text installer and the default AI manifest in an Automated Installer installation install the solaris-large-server group package. The default installation manifest for non-global zones installs the solaris-small-server group package. The solaris-minimal-server group package installs the minimum supported set of packages required to run Oracle Solaris. You might want to modify a default installation manifest to install solaris-minimal-server, and then install additional packages as needed.
The recommended minimum system memory is 4 GB.
The following table shows the recommended minimum disk space for each system installation package group.

Some capabilities that were available in Oracle Solaris 11.3 and earlier releases are nowobsolete and have been removed from Oracle Solaris 11.4. An upgrade to Oracle Solaris 11.4 willremove any obsolete capabilities that are currently installed on the system. For example, driversfor some legacy devices have been deprecated in Oracle Solaris 11.4. If you upgrade systems withthese devices, you might lose the ability to access those devices from Oracle Solaris 11.4. Beforeyou upgrade, review the End ofFeature Notices for Oracle Solaris 11.
For information about supported systems and implementation differences between platform types, see Oracle Solaris 11 Hardware Compatibility List.
Oracle recommends updating your system firmware to the latest available prior to installationof Oracle Solaris 11.4. See FirmwareDownloads and Release History for Oracle Systems.
SPARC: Legacy Systems Require Firmware Update to Support Oracle Solaris Kernel Zones
Although Oracle SPARC T4, SPARC T5, SPARC M5, SPARC M6, and Fujitsu SPARC M10 systems were released with firmware versions to boot Oracle Solaris 11.4, the firmware must be updated if Oracle Solaris kernel zones support is required. Oracle SPARC M7, SPARC M8, SPARC T7, and SPARC T8 systems do not require firmware updates to support kernel zones on Oracle Solaris 11.4.
For information about hardware and software requirements for kernel zones, see Software and Hardware Requirements for Oracle Solaris Kernel Zones in Creating and Using Oracle Solaris Kernel Zones.

I am trying to install Solaris 10 x86 05/08 on a Sony PCG-K115S laptop. The issue I am having is that the installation hangs after printing the copyright information and does not go any further. I get no error message or status as to what the installation is doing.
I downloaded the dvd iso from sun website and verified the md5 checksum before burning the dvd more than once but the issue occurred in both dvds.
The laptop currently has XP installed but there is 30GB of free unallocated/partitioned space on the disk.
Are there any options I can active to debug the installation and see where and why it is stalling.
Thank you,
F.
Edit 1:
After some forum reading I activated the Kernel Debugger and verbose mode:
The installation hangs after this line is printed out:
echi0 is /[email protected],0/pci104d,[email protected],2
loaded modules: [uppc neti ufs unix krtld uhci hook genunix ip usba specfs pcplusmp cpu.generic sctp arp]
Does this strike a cord with anybody??
Edit 2:
After some more reading and investigation, I read that this could be caused by my USB controller not being recognoized or some USB 2.0 issues with Solaris 10.
I have tried to deactive the usb system with the options '-B acpi_user_options=2' and '-B acpi_user_options=8' but with no luck. (I got about these on some some forum, not sure if they are correct).
Any help is appreciated!!
Thank you,
F.

reenter directory manager password:nnnn
after that i get the above errors
at the end it says

i appreciate if someone can help me in this issue.Enterprise Linux is designed for industry standard server hardware. It supports a limited and well known range of peripherals in order to provide commercial support and high reliability.
If you need Linux for any Laptop or Desktop PC, choose a Desktop Linux distribution, like Ubuntu, Fedora, Debian, etc.
Your best option to run Enterprise Linux on non supported hardware is to use hardware virtualization like free Oracle Virtualbox. More information see http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/community/developer-vm/index.html. IMO, there is no compelling reason to try to install Enterprise Linux using dual boot or relying on 3rd party driver software. - When installing a new single-node system, opmn fails to start.

VivekI do not know details of Your hardware - it determines possibility of eventual Solaris installation.
I recommend two initial diagnostic steps:
1) Consult HCL.
or better:
2) Download 'install_check' program from SUN web page, burn bootable CD and check Your hdw. After acceptation of hdw (at least critical parts - video graphics and disk) installation should proceed without significant problems.
BTW - I hope that there is sufficient RAM in Your laptop (256 MB or more) . Next - 6 GB of disk may be insufficient for full installation and comfortable development of software.
Good luck! - Hi,
Can anyone help me in resolving the below problem?
I have downloaded the DVD version of solaris 10 into my windows system, but not sure on how to make the downloaded image as bootable one.
Extratorrent movies free downloads site. I did exeucted the 'sol-10-u3-ga-x86-dvd-full' file which I downloaded, it went on and created one more file with the following name 'sol-10-u3-ga-x86-dvd' (which is in zip format). Again I extracted the zip file which created few files alongwith some directories.
Got confused which one I should copy into DVD and how to make the image as bootable.
I did copied these images seperately into DVD and tried booting thro' it but it failed. Boot options at the BIOS level also been set to DVD/CD option.
Can anyone guide me on how to convert the downloaded files into an bootable image so that I can use it for installation.
Note: I am using roxio for DVD solutions.
Thank you.
SaranSaran,
It's been a while since I downloaded a DVD image 'full' file, but if I remeber correctly, it should have when unzipped, create a sol-10-u3-ga-x86-dvd.iso file. The .iso file is the image that should be burned. Most burning software allow you to burn an image without having to specify making it bootable.
Dave S. - I am getting this error, although diskspace is ok.. check df -hk at the end.
The installer was working before! a few days ago. nothing changes on the system. we only restarted it and everything else is till working fine.

It can mean a lot of things, looking at what the customer provided though:
swap 77M 96K 77M 1% /var/run
swap 631M 554M 77M 88% /tmp
That shows they only have something like 144MB of swap left, which isn't much at all. So the system most likely ran out of virtual memory/swap space (there would have been even less when the installer uses some for its own temp files) - rebooting the system resulted in the contents of /var/run and /tmp being removed, and would have freed up the space.

I am new to solaris . I downloaded the four zipped ISO files of solaris 10 from the website. I burned the images on the cd. When i insert the disk 1 and restart the computer it does not detect the cd as bootable and does not start the installation. I have win XP previously installed as the only os on my laptop. help me plsMake sure your computer supports bootable CD's and that you burned the images correctly to your CDR. - Hi All,
I am installing Solution Manger 4.0 with Ms SQL server on win 2003 server. Intsallation is failed at 24the step'Start Instance'. I observed that, at this step it started the DVEBMGS01 instance and stopped and then restarted the instance. At this point dispatcher of that instance is stopped and the step failed.
Can anybody help me solve it.
Thanks,

I had this exact problem with installation of Netweaver 04s SR3.
In some log I found a message saying that the page file was not big enough to perform some operation.
After checking the windows page file I found out it was only 2GB, extended it to 8 GB max, then rebooted and retried the installation at the point where it left and everything worked fine afterwards.
Check your paging file and give it plenty of space.
Hope it helps.

Gurus, please help me ,before i have OBIEE 11.1.1.5 now i try to change OBIEE 11.1.1.6 at installing time *'Starting Managed Server: bi_server1' failed* in configuration process.
please help me.
Thanks,I had similar issue in windows 7 [64 bit].
It is found that the nodemanger windows service was not present and I had to create it by executing installNodeMgrSvc.cmd present in wls server location say, 'C:OracleMiddlewarewlserver_10.3serverbin' in my case and then come to bi wls console and 'Resume' the bi_server1 managed server. You would see progress in the installer once the managed server bi_server1 is 'Running' state.
Hope this helps. - I'm installing the Turnkey LiveCycle on a PC running Windows Vista.
The LiveCycle Configuration Manager fails with the error:
Service startup failed for: JBoss for Adobe LiveCycle ES
If I try and manually start the service from Windows, I get this:
'The JBoss for Adobe LiveCycle ES service started than stopped.'
Running JBossService.exe from the command prompt does nothing - it just returns to the prompt with no error message.
However, if I go the bin directory and execute 'run.bat', the server starts fine - I can access the configuration pages from my web browser on localhost:8080
It seems to be a problem with the wrapper that makes it into a Windows service.
Any ideas of how I can get fix this?
Thanks!
Rob.Thanks Jasmin.
I found it was a 64bit Windows issue. The 'JBossService.exe' which is really a copy of 'JavaService' needs to be replaced with a version compiled for 64 bit Windows.
I used the file from 'JavaService-2.0.7.64.zip'.

ThanksHi.
Strange. I just tried this myself on solaris with no problems. Make sure you are
downloading in binary mode. If you are then I suggest you open a case with support. If
nothing else they can probably provide you with an ftp download.

xinI don't have a server at hand right now ( that machine is busy with an OSX install, on a different partition ) but you could start by looking for any Adobe document that even mentions VC++ 2008.
In other words, at least for the desktop version of CS4 the oficial compiler is the VC 2005 SP1 .
Express should be no problem, I use it myself: 'VS80sp1-KB926748-X86-INTL.exe'
You'll also need the matching Windows SDK. Watch out for something labeled '5.2.3790.2075.51.PlatformSDK_Svr2003R2_rtm.dmg'

Afterthought: funny that this thread always pops up when my experimental machine is busy ;-) - Hi All,
Appreciate any help to resolve the following installation error on my Windows Vista system with JDK1.602
Pop-up Error Message:
The installer is unable to run graphical mode. Please check the value of the DISPLAY environment varibale.
Thanks,
CPJSE8.1 (based on NetBeans 5.0) is not supported on Vista. You may want to consider using the latest NetBeans 5.5.1. (NetBeans is where all future development is planned for).

From the release notes of NB551:
# Issue #85361: NetBeans 5.5 installer does not start on Windows Vista.
Description: On systems running Windows Vista, the NetBeans 5.5 installer fails to start
and a message suggesting running with the 'silent' or 'console' flag appears.
Workaround: To correct this, run the installer on JDK 6.0 build 96 or newer.
If you encounter further difficulties, disable Compatibility Mode manually. You can do
this by right-clicking the .exe installer file and choosing Properties from the pop-up menu,
then deselecting Compatibility Mode in the Compatibility tab of the File Properties dialog.
Note that if Compatibility Mode was turned on automatically, it is necessary to disable it
for both the current user AND all users. To do so, click the 'Show Settings for All Users'
button, then deselect the Compatibility Mode checkbox in the 'Compatibility for All Users'
dialog. You can try the same workaround for installing jse8.1, to see if that works. But, it is an older version that is not supported on vista and hence my suggestion to consider a later version of NB. - I've downloaded b58 of Solaris 10 x86 .. however some packages fail to install during installation:
- Database access failed due to one or more incorrect SQL statements (pkgadd).
It's a non-networked installation. Does anyone have any idea what's causing this? Sol10 is working, but most packages are only partially installed, rendering Sol10 rather useless. I had this very same problem trying to install b55.
Tylan.Well, I removed that 2nd harddrive. The installation begins fine, no problems there.. it's usually somewhere halfway on cd1 or cd2 that these errors appear. But the errors start random - then the installation continues, but the errors remain random.
I noticed however, that SUNWdtdst is usually the first one to fail due to an SQL Statement error.. (I tail the /tmp/install_log every time), but even when this package manages to install succesfully, this very same error appears at the end of cd1. If not, then they surely follow on cd2 after a reboot. I've never made it to cd3 without errors yet.
It doesn't matter if I delete the partitions with fdisk first and try again, nor when I use large slices like 10Gb for root and 10Gb for swap (and no other slices). The funny thing is; Solaris 9 installs succesfully..
I will try installing on another disk one of these days..
I'll also check the message-file then.
Tylan.
